Hair loss is a problem that has plagued men and women from all over the world, for centuries and continues to do so. This is perhaps one of the main reasons why, globally, there are so many studies and researches being conducted about the same. This article will look at some of the newest techniques that are coming to the forefront in the world of helping people with hair loss.

Stem cell therapy for hair loss

Recent studies has shown that stem cells can play a crucial role in stimulating hair growth and platelet rich plasma or PRP therapy, wherein platelets are harvesting from your own blood and injected into the body, is just one part of the process.

Stem cells might be tiny, but are extremely powerful and have the ability to divide and transform into a variety of other cells. All cells in our body are programmed to be born and then die eventually, however, stem cells act as the natural healers that work from within the body. This is why stem cells can help with the repair and rejuvenation of the body, even in adults.

Mesenchymal stem cells are quite potent and can be differentiated into numerous other cell types including fat cells, cartilage and bone cells. The papilla of the hair follicle is mainly made of connective tissue as well as a capillary loop and this is where mesenchymal stem cells come into play. The MS cells can help with the repair and regeneration of the hair follicle papilla.

    Hair cloning

Still in the initial stages of research, hair cloning holds a lot of scope for the future and might be the one way ticket out of baldness. As of now, the ongoing research is about how new hair can be grown outside the body, using tissue culture.

Studies have shown that in cases where there is complete baldness, there are no follicles on the scalp, which means that there is no scope for regeneration. However, recent studies have shown that there is a presence of follicles, because there is a presence of stem cells on the scalp too.

The basic tenet behind hair cloning is that since there are stem cells in the scalp, these can be extracted and then used in areas, where there is no hair growth or balding has occurred. The process has to be completed mostly out of the body, because the multiplication of the stem cells has to be manually and then the same are injected into the scalp, allowing for the generation of new hair.

    Robotics

Robotics has taken over in several fields and hair transplantation and restoration is one where it is slowly making its presence felt. There are numerous robotic devices, which are helping doctors complete transplant and restoration processes easier and more precise. These devices allow for better removal of donor grafts and certainly reduce the time spent on harvesting the same.

There are several benefits to using robotics for such procedures and some of them include:

  • The robots are fitted with specially designed algorithms, allowing for the optimal selection of hair and the eventual harvesting.
  • The harvesting procedure is minimally invasive, which means that the donor area will continue to look normal and the healing is faster.
  • There is almost a certainty that the grafts which are harvested will be in prime condition. The speed of extraction is faster with robotics and the procedure is completed within a shorter time period.

Most importantly, the robots will take a major part of the pressure away from the surgeon, allowing them to offer near perfection in the complete procedure.

    Hairline advancement or hairline lowering

For many men all over the world, the biggest problem is when there forehead starts becoming larger, which literally means that they are losing more hair than they would like. It is for such men, and in certain cases women as well, that procedures such as hairline lowering or advancement comes into play.

Very simply put, with hairline advancement procedure, you will be able to shrink your forehead and give a visual impression of having a lot more hair than might be actually present. However, there are several variables that have to be kept in mind, including scalp laxity and hairline height.

The surgeon will demarcate the new hairline and ensure that it looks natural. The incisions are made carefully and in a manner that when the new hair grows in, it will cover the scars. For the procedure, the scalp is separated from the skull and pulled back almost till the back of the neck. The scalp is then pulled forward and sutured in place.

    Tissue expansion

This is one of the newer procedures in town and is used to reduce the expanse of the area that is bald. The process is done by putting a tissue expander, right beneath the skin. Over a period of time, when the balloon starts to expand, so does the skin of the scalp. This allows the scalp to become a little loose, and the balloon is removed. After this, the excess skin on the scalp is removed, leading to an obvious reduction of the bald area.

The most suitable candidates for this procedure would be those with the need for a drastic hairline improvement. This procedure is being used for people who have had altered hairlines, because of trauma suffered during accidents or fires.

What is it about hair transplants that make people feel they should go for it, as though the ads that promote ‘cures to baldness’  weave a mesmeric spell?  Many surgeons state there is a certain risk. It gives the entire medical fraternity a bad name when fly-by-night operators make tall claims and then fail to deliver. A patient who had undergone 2000 hair grafts was depressed because of his surgeon’s attitude post-surgery. Before selling him the idea of a transplant, the patient was welcomed, convinced but the situation turned sour when the grafts did not grow. To make matters worse, the patient could not even have a short hair cut due to the terrible scar he was saddled with. The recipient area had healed but the surgeon was wrong in making the patient feel as though it were his fault. A surgeon first and foremost needs to be compassionate enough to treat every patient with not just medicines and operations but also proper counseling and adequate or qualitative feedback.  As for patients, they need to do thorough research before signing up for hair transplant or any such procedure and must not consider this to be some mysterious process where the outcome hinges on chance or luck. Most factors are within the control of the surgeon and his team.

However, many times women with undiagnosed conditions like alopecia may face some problems with hair grafts.

People should be aware that as they age they will face thinning hair and not fall prey to miracle peddlers and their false promises. A transplant done at thirty years of age will have different result than one which is done later. New procedures like FUE have made inroads into hair restoration, but before opting for it, a consultation with experts is vital to avoid disappointment later. Any person going in for any kind of treatment should feel free to ask questions such as density coverage, downtime, side-effects or any other concerns like a scar. The best bet would be to seek testimonials of those who have already been through the procedure. At A K Clinics we have a dedicated team of qualified professionals who educate the patient about the procedure and dispel doubts. Our centres in Ludhiana, Delhi, Mumbai are open to people from all walks of life, who want to change their tomorrow and face it with confidence.

Covering another milestone, doctors at AK Clinics performed the first ever Bio-DHT (Direct Hair Transplantation) surgery in India. “Bio-DHT method is the latest breakthrough in the hair restoration field. It has brought down the out of body time of Hair follicles from 2-3 hours to less than a minute”,said Dr. Aman.

She added that, “The minimum out of body time of Hair follicles ensures the survival of the hair follicles. On the other hand it also promotes quality results.

Explaining the technique Dr. Kapil Dua said, “Bio-DHT is based on a very simple concept but requires extreme precision. It’s a combination of PRP Therapy and Direct Hair transplant. Whereby, hair follicles are directly extracted from the donor area and are implanted into the recipient area at the same time.Along with it PRP therapy is given, in which Platelet Rich plasmais injected in to the scalp of the patient. The method is least invasive and generates high success rates. We’ve been researching on this combination for the last 2 years for the best results. For this procedure, the equipment uses including the OT table is of a different style unlike the conventional hair transplant equipment.

Further Dr. Dua informed that on daily basis they were getting queries regarding the technique. This method will soon be an international success. In fact we’re getting training requests from surgeons across the world for teaching this technique.

The doctors at AK Clinics said that they feel ecstatic as they have made this successful breakthrough in their journey to transform the looks of human race.

Few days ago, I met one of my college friends over the lunch at a newly opened restaurant in the town. I noticed that this friend of mine who was known as a confident, cheerful and buoyant guy of our gang has been showing the signs of insecurity. Suddenly I saw something strange, he chopped of his hair and was hiding behind a cap. He revealed that in a moment of nostalgia, he shaved off his head for a charity cause to raise some funds.

I remember him having healthy and wavy hair. Yes! He had that kind of hair that would make anyone go green with envy. He shared his experience with me; we chatted for hours discussing “How does it feel like to shave the crown jewel of your head” and it made us realize the importance of hair in one’s life. Soon our conversation took the road to explore the effects of baldness in a person’s life. Having no hair or not much hair on your head can be a devastating experience not only for women but for men also or shall we say it is even more traumatic for men as they suffer from localized baldness whereas women suffer from diffusion baldness. It has been rightly said by James Brown that, ‘Hair is the first thing’ (that a man needs in his life, if he has got it), ‘He has got it all’. Baldness directly attacks one’s confidence level and self-esteem. Insults like “slaphead”, “baldie”, “chrome dome” are thrown at them. Gradually, it develops into depression which in turn affects both their personal & professional lives.

This is the reason why most bald men start alienating themselves from relationships, family, friends & professional growth. They dodge public gatherings and social meetings. Many try to hide their baldness by wearing caps, like my friend did. They even avoid wearing formal clothing. While some who are not completely bald get their remaining hair shaved also, in a desperate attempt to look for a solution. So what a person should do in this situation? Throughout the century, so many inventions have been made in hair restoration field that it seems nothing is impossible now. Both the surgical and non-surgical methods have been evolved. Non-surgical method includes medicines & therapies like Mesotherapy & Laser therapy that solve the purpose but they only give up to 30-40% results while surgical method includes hair transplant surgery which give permanent results.Hair transplant helps not only in improving a person’s appearance but also transforms their way of living life. It revives the lost confidence, self –esteem and enthusiasm. Hair transplant is the best & only permanent solution for baldness. Hair transplantation is a surgical technique that moves individual hair follicles from a part of the body called the ‘donor site’ to bald or balding part of the body known as the ‘recipient site’.

There has been a myth doing rounds that getting a hair transplant is very painful which is not true. Hair transplant is done under the impression of local anesthesia, which makes the procedure completely pain-free so much so that a patient can even enjoy the music, read magazines or watch T.V inside the O.T during the procedure. Not only this, the patient can also resume his/her daily activities from the very next day after the surgery. Due to technique advancements, it has also become a very safe method of hair restoration. Nowadays hair transplantation services are accessible everywhere, at varied prices. But a person should think twice before making a choice here, as people often get lured by tactics adopted by several inexperienced institutions, where a patient can get transplantation done at relatively low-cost but they compromise quality over cost. Transplantation done by a well-experienced doctor ensures quality results and at AK Clinics the maximum experience of doctors promises the best quality at cost-effective price. The reason of baldness can be many such as genetic baldness, accident, hormonal changes or it can be the reason for which my friend shaved his head. But one thing is assured, with such wide arena of treatments available one doesn’t need to suffer the trauma attached with baldness.

Hair loss is a common problem faced by both men and women. Now it is not just a problem of older people but there has been a paradigm shift. Due to stress or any genetic reasons many young people are also getting affected by it. These days various treatments are used to restore natural hair growth. Hair restoration takes on many different forms. Natural hair restoration can be a great method to re-grow hair naturally.
There are a plenty of hair loss medications, hair transplant surgeries, and hair loss laser treatments available for the consumers for preventing hair loss and encouraging hair re-growth. Growing hair naturally is usually best done as a preventative measure. In this modern era there are a few different transplant surgeries that can be done to restore hair growth. Hair restoration is a process whereby hair follicles are removed from an area of existing thick hair and implanted into an area of thinning hair. Surgical hair restoration works especially well for those who suffer from the “male pattern baldness”. Medical hair restoration procedures today transplant hair in small grouping of one to three follicles. For better quality results you need to contact a best hair restoration physician. Arrange for an appointment where the doctor will examine your hair fall and will discuss with you all the hair restoration options. Some patients will have fast results with relatively few transplants, while others will show less new growth. After the hair diagnosis doctor will advice you which surgical hair transplant system will be good for your hair re-growth.

Hair Transplant process depends on the sufficient donor hair too. Surgical Hair restoration method of transplanting donor hair to recipient area is also known as Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT). There are two options with which hair transplant can be done to give a natural look to your hair. Strip Technique – With strip excision a strip of flesh is removed from the permanent ring of hair around the occipital lobe and sides of the head under local anesthesia. The wound is then sutured back together and this piece of scalp tissue is then cut in to small pieces of tissue called grafts which are then transplanted back in to the thinning area of the patient’s head. This method will leave a linear scar in the donor area, which should be covered by a patient’s hair. The recovery period is around two weeks and will require the stitches to be removed by surgeon. The most serious problem that occurs is excessive scarring, because the remaining tissue cannot accommodate the tissue that has now been depleted, and over time stretches.

Follicular Unit Extraction: Also known as FUE is the advanced technique for hair transplant. FUE hair transplant surgery is better and comfortable as compared to the older hair transplantation procedures that used larger grafts and often produced a plugged, unnatural look. Individual follicles of hair are removed under local anesthesia; this micro removal uses tiny punches of between 0.1mm and 0.8mm in diameter. Each follicle is then reinserted back in to the scalp in the thinning area using a micro blade. Because individual follicles are removed, only small, punctuate scars remain and any post-surgical pain is minimized. Benefits of FUE are: a quicker healing time, far less trauma, no strip scar, and the surgeon’s ability to individually select follicular units. Discomfort in the donor area has been practically eliminated. If suggested and required go for more sessions. In Hair Restoration, most patients undergo two or more procedures. Allow the transplanted follicles time to grow as they replace your bald location with new natural hair growth. Like any other surgery in cosmetic hair transplant surgery too your body needs time to heal. During that time, as always, there are recommended methods to aid the healing process. Keep in mind that reducing stress in your lifestyle, and getting good aerobic exercise both have added effects of helping to prevent hair loss and promote hair re-growth. Making some basic changes before trying any other therapy is advised.

Also, continuing those good habits even through hair restoration treatments will help to contribute to you to gain a full head of hair.
