Scalp Micro Pigmentation – Why It Could Be The Right Choice For You

You look in the mirror and you notice that you can suddenly see a little bit more of your scalp than you would like to. Although you are not losing hair by the chunks, you are not too happy with the way your head has started looking and even though you are pretty sure that you will not need a hair transplant, you certainly want to have a head that looks fuller.

If you do not want to undergo a surgical procedure, but still want to have a head that looks full of hair and stunning, then you need to consider Scalp Micro Pigmentation or SMP. There are several people who have not reached the stage of a complete hair transplant, but still have bald spots or places on their head, where their scalp is clearly visible and this is the process that is just right for them.

What exactly is Scalp Micro Pigmentation?

Scalp Micro Pigmentation is a technique that allows doctors to create a series of tiny little dots on the scalp. A natural and non-toxic ink is used to create these dots and the placement is such that it will always be in between natural hair to create a look of density. The method can also be used to fill in completely bald spots too, and give the look of a really closed crop cut. In the simplest of terms, SMP is like tattooing on your head to create the illusion of hair and while the most popular use is on the head, it can be used on any other part of the body too.

SMP is becoming extremely popular because it has several benefits – from the fact that it is completely non-invasive, to the fact that it is an extremely cost effective procedure, a growing number of people are now opting for it. In addition, the procedure can ensure immediate results, which are absolutely realistic too. However, it is important to remember that like all tattoos, that too will fade with time, which means that after a while, you will need to go in for revision sessions. Perhaps the biggest advantage of SMP is that is ideal for all stages and types of hair loss and there are no restrictions in terms of age, skin colour or skin type.

What is the procedure of Scalp Micro Pigmentation?

The procedure is actually quite simple – you will need mostly two to three sessions and each session will have about a month’s gap. A cartridge, with three needles, will work on the surface of the skin, gently injecting the ink onto the skin, pretty much the same way a tattoo would be applied. The spacing of the pigments will be decided by the doctor and it will be based on the location of the natural hair. Experienced doctors will even use different colours to ensure a completely natural look.

Who would be an ideal candidate for Scalp Micro Pigmentation?

SMP is actually a good idea for almost anyone – whether you have just started losing hair or have been losing hair since long, you can consider SMP. Here are some of the factors that will make you an ideal candidate:

  • If you have undergone multiple hair transplant, but still want more
  • If you have diffused thinning
  • If you have a negligible donor area
  • If you are not too keen on surgery
  • If you suffer from extensive alopecia
  • If you want better facial hair like eyebrows, beard and moustache
  • If you want to cover the scars from a trauma or surgery hairy area

How Scalp Micro Pigmentation will help?

Here are just some of the ways in which you can benefit from SMP:

  • Reduce scalp visibility
  • Cover entirely bald spots
  • Helps to create a proper hairline
  • Cover up signs of alopecia
  • Cover up scars, burns and even birthmarks
