Delicious treat after a long day at work

A hair transplant expert and a keen foodie who likes to “unwind with a good meal and glass of wine”, Dr Kapil Dua is as much at ease handling a ladle in the kitchen, as performing a delicate procedure to give his patients a full head of hair.

With over 14 years of clinical and teaching experience in the fields of Otolaryngology i.e the study of ear, nose, throat or ENT and Hair Transplants, and 1,500 hair transplant surgeries to his credit, he is one of the few people to bring Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) transplants to India.

FUE is the most advanced technique of hair restoration. In this method: The hair follicles or grafts are extracted one by one from the permanent zone or beard or chest or other body parts of body. And then implanted in the areas which are bald such as scalp, beard, moustache, eyebrows, eyelashes or chest areas.
Dr Dua spoke to Metrolife, sharing his twin passions — maintaining a healthy diet regimen and rustling up delicious meals as a stress buster! Here’s what he had to say…

“Although I occasionally indulge in guilty pleasures, I try and keep my diet healthy and get as much good nutrition from my meals as possible (as opposed to getting the same nutrition from supplements)
Knowing how to care for the skin and hair is something I know a lot about, thanks to my occupation. But I also know that many problems people face, with their skin and hair (with the exception of problems that are genetic), can be controlled or prevented by eating the right food.

I commute regularly between the Delhi and Ludhiana branches of AK Clinics, and one summer evening in Ludhiana I recall being invited out with colleagues to an impromptu dinner at someone else’s home. Honestly, I was expecting the dinner to be ordered from outside, given that such short notice was given. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find a wonderful spread comprising whole-wheat pastas, grilled chicken and an array of other goodies.
The one dish that really stood out though, was the salmon and spinach salad with hard boiled eggs. Salmon and spinach are two of my absolute favourite super foods, and the combination of them in this salad was so delicious that I didn’t hesitate in asking for the recipe.
A simple, wholesome and easy to make dish, it quickly became one of my favourite foods to have at the end of a long day, as I prefer a quick meal that requires little hassle and skill to prepare.

In addition to the crisp and delightful taste of the salad, it is also satisfying because I know there are plenty of health benefits in every bite. The salmon has omega-3 fatty acids, selenium (both of which are good for the skin) and Vitamin D to keep the bones and teeth strong and healthy. The spinach is an excellent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant with tonnes of helpful nutrients. There is also plenty of healthy goodness in the hard boiled eggs, so this salad is really an all-round winner!
