In the previous article we looked at what causes oily hair and what can be done to either handle it or avoid it altogether. In this article, we will look at some easy to do tips and tricks, which will help reduce the oil in your hair naturally.

  • Aloe vera – Aloevera has emerged as one of the most popular natural remedies in the entire world and each day, a new use of it is being discovered. Nature’s miracle plant can also be used to handle hair that is really oily. Take half a cup of shampoo that is really gentle or mild and combine this with a large spoonful of lemon juice and a small spoonful of aloe vera gel. Once the concoction is mixed well, you can store it in an airtight jar in the refrigerator. You can wash your hair, every day with this mix, and this quantity should ideally last you about a week.
  • Baby powder – As odd it might sound, baby powder can actually help with oily hair. This is actually a great idea for people who are in a rush and are feeling bothered by their oily hair. If you have had no time to wash your hair, just sprinkle some baby powder on your hair and leave it for five minutes. After that, simply comb your hair and the powder should soak in the excess oil. In addition, your hair will smell really nice too.
  • Vinegar and lemon juice rinse – If you are someone who finds their hair greasy even after washing it with shampoo, this might do the trick for you. Combine two tablespoons of vinegar or the juice of one lemon with a cup full of water and then rinse your hair with it, after shampooing. Make sure that you rinse your hair with warm water, before drying your hair. In case of rush, one can use any dry shampoo.

vinegar and lemon juice

  • Lemon – Lemon is truly a blessing for anyone with oily hair – create a mix with the juice of two lemons and two cups of water that has been distilled and store it in a clean bottle. Every time you wash your hair, use this mix – all you have to do is pat your hair dry and then massage your scalp with this solution. Leave the solution in for about 5 minutes and then rinse thoroughly. Yet another method is to cut a lemon in half and then rub the lemon on your scalp. Leave it for 10 to 15 minutes and then wash your hair in the same way as you always would. The essential oils and the juice of the lemon will wash off the oil and grease from the scalp, leaving you with a clean hair feeling. However, this is not something you would want to do every day!
  • Lemon and egg yolk – While you might enjoy eggs for your breakfast, did you know that they can work magic on your oily greasy hair too? All you have to do is separate two eggs, because you only need the yolks. Beat the yolks really well, with a few drops of fresh lemon juice and apply the same on wet hair. Leave the egg mix on your wet hair for 5 to 7 minutes and then rinse it off completely. In order to bid farewell to greasy hair, use this mix at least twice a week.
  • Lemon juice and tea leaves – There are plenty of people in this world who enjoy a hot cup of tea with some lemon juice in it, but these people might not be aware that the same combination can also help with oily hair. Boil tea leaves in some water and then strain the same, allowing the water to cool down completely. Once cool, add the juice of half a lemon and mix well. Apply this mix on your scalp and hair and leave for a minimum of 30 minutes. Wash your hair in a normal manner and you should enjoy hair that is not greasy, but has a healthy shine to it.

Beer

  • Beer – There are several people who enjoy sitting down with a bottle of beer, at the end of a long tiring day. The same beer, however, can help you get rid of greasy hair too. In addition, the higher the alcohol content of the beer, the better it would be. Mix half a cup of beer with four times the amount of water. Use this mix with for the last but one rinse and watch your hair shine!
  • Tea – Creating a weak tea or a diluted tea mixture will certainly help with hair that is oily and greasy. Tea contains tannic acid, which is known to be a natural astringent, which will reduce the oily nature of hair. All you have to do is boil tea leaves in a cup of water and then strain it out. Allow the brew to become warm and then apply the same to the scalp and hair. Rinse it with shampoo and water. You can also create a rinse by combining some rosemary with tea. Make a tea brew and strain it over two spoonfuls of dried rosemary. Cover the bowl and allow the tea and rosemary to steep for about 20 minutes, before straining and cooling it. Store this mix in a plastic bottle, and every time you shampoo, use this mix for the last but one rinse.
  • Mint – Mint is known to offer a sense of freshness and it can do the same for your hair. Boil a fistful of mint leaves in about 2 glasses of water for about 15 to 20 minutes. Strain this mix and combine it with your regular shampoo. Every time you shampoo your hair, the astringent qualities of mint will not only remove the excess oil, but also leave your hair smelling mint fresh!

These were just some of the easy to do home remedies, which can help combat oily hair, but you need to make sure that you eat right and stay hydrated.
