A 30 yrs old male presented with the complaint of hair loss for the past 10 years with no active hair fall for 2 years. On hair analysis, the FU density was found to be 79FU/cm2. He was NH Grd V. He underwent combination of FUT + FUE surgery as he wanted to fill the entire scalp in one go. On first day Bio-FUTwas done and he was given 3350 grafts. On second day 1300 grafts were given by Bio-FUE for his reconstruction. So toltal 4650 grafts were given in two days by combining Bio-FUT and Bio FUE. Dr. Aman Dua, The Board of Governor of Association of Hair Restoration Surgeons (AHRS) India, recently attended the world’s largest hair transplant conference of ISHRS held in Prague, Capital of Czech Republic. The meeting was attended by around 1000 delegates from all part of world.

She spoke on “FUE Overview” in the basic course program. She elaborated the journey of FUE from manual punches to the motorized one being used nowadays. Dr. Aman Dua also highlighted the advantages of FLAT punch developed by the speaker and also to the cautioned people that not to remove high number of grafts from the scalp donor area as it has got a lot of side effects.

She also presented a poster on “The specificities of hair transplantation in India: A retrospective analysis of 125 patients”. In this poster, she exclusively highlighted the subtle differences between the Indian subpopulation and their Western counterparts along with the modification of the technique to reduce the complications and to increase the efficacy of the procedure. Her speech and presentation was highly commended by everyone present there.

The world’s biggest conference on Hair Transplant Surgery was also held in Prague, Capital of Czech Republic recently. Around 15 doctors from the India participated in this conference.

The Indian contingent was led by Dr. Kapil Dua, Honorary President of Association of Hair Restoration Surgeons of India (AHRS). He is also a member of the Board of Governor of ISHRS. He was a table leader for a discussion of “How to start FUE practice” and a panelist for discussion on one of the most important topic in hair transplant surgery, “Management of the Hair Transplant Difficult Cases”.

During his table discussion, he highlighted that it is not only the surgical skills which are important to do a good hair transplant but the doctor should also understand how to handle the patient expectations and to prepare a proper plan for them. The discussion of difficult cases, the problem of harvesting the higher number of grafts from- all areas of the scalp and the side effects of see through appearance were highlighted. He suggested that it is better to have a conservative approach neither than an oppressive approach in the long term interest of the patient.

Along with this, he also attended the Board of Governors meeting of ISHRS; represented India in the Global Council meeting; FUE Advancement committee and presented a poster on topic “How do I choose a blunt or a sharp punch? – A scientific assessment.” In his poster he scientifically proved that the Flat punch developed by author is better than the other available sharp punches in the market. The contribution of the Indian doctors was applauded by everyone.
